KEY POINTES I PRESENTED TO THE HOMEBUILDERS ASSOC. of IRON COUNTY

August 20, 2009

Building Industry Association of Iron County

Smart growth planning has the potential of improving business opportunities, encouraging investment and enhancing employment while maintaining or improving our overall quality of life.

The building industry as well as other entities that contribute to the growth of our community should be given incentives to participate in smart growth development.

I believe in the key elements of smart growth planning outlined by the Smart Growth Network:

Safe, Convenient Neighborhoods With Homes That People Can Afford

Development Decisions That Are Fair to Everyone

Investing Taxpayer Money Wisely

Protecting and Preserving Our Natural Heritage and Working Lands

A Community Designed to Accommodate the Needs of All Ages

A Lasting Legacy in Our Community

Growth and Development That Improves Our Communities

“Communities around the nation are developing in ways that offer more choices, protect natural resources, honor shared culture and heritage, use resources wisely, and improve the economy. They’re building safe and affordable homes, making it easier to get around, protecting health, and creating more opportunities for everyone. And a growing number of developers are responding to consumers’ desire for places like these.”

Many believe the building industry benefits from smart growth planning. People are attracted to communities that maintain their character and charm. Sometimes short sighted planning defeats long term opportunities. Let’s work together to identify what you think is best for the community and what will keep your industry viable in the long term.

“Smart growth strategies are helping communities create a better future for all. They can help our community, too.”

STATEMENT TO ARTS COMMUNITY SEPTEMBER 4th

I see the music, visual, performing arts as a valued part of the heritage of Cedar City and a cultural and economic asset to our community. 1. Hello Raymond,

I heard you saved Cedar City $10 million with the Utopia Project ... how did you do that? Is Cedar hooked up to the Utopia telecommunications system?

Is there a possibility to halt the contruction of the new 'Senior Center'? It appears to be an expense we cannot afford.

What church are you a member of?

    Thank you.

I voted against UTOPIA which saved a lot of money. We now have a fiber loop with local control at a much lower cost than UTOPIA. Not sure about the Senior Center, I will check it out
